Frequently asked questions

Is PacketPuffin really free?

Yes. The speed test and connection-quality stats are free to use, forever, with no ads and no account. PacketPuffin Pro is an optional upgrade that unlocks the network tools (Wi-Fi Scanner, DNS Benchmark, Ping and Bufferbloat tests) plus full history and trends.

How do I unlock PacketPuffin Pro?

Open Settings in the app and tap Upgrade to PacketPuffin Pro, or tap any locked tool. Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple.

I already paid — how do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy Pro.

Is my data private?

Completely. PacketPuffin has no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking, and it runs no servers of its own. Your test history is stored only on your device and never leaves it. You can read the full Privacy Policy.

A test says the server is busy. What's going on?

Speed tests use Cloudflare's public test servers. If you run many tests in a short time, that service may briefly rate-limit your network and ask you to wait a minute before trying again. Give it a moment and run it once more, or switch networks, and it'll clear on its own.

Why does the Wi-Fi Scanner ask for permission?

iOS requires the "Local Network" permission before an app can look for devices on your Wi-Fi. The scan runs only when you tap Scan, stays entirely on your local network, and keeps nothing.

How do I stop saving test history?

Open Settings and turn off Save results to history. You can also delete individual results or clear everything at any time — and deleting the app removes all of it.
